Home Care for

Extensions

Correct aftercare is essential for the longevity and look of your hair extensions after you leave the salon. Failure to follow the advice given to you by your stylist can lead to a shortened life of your hair and decrease its lifespan. The normal lifespan of extensions can be 18 weeks to a year depending on what type of hair you install and how you take care of it. There is no way to calculate

Blonde Extensions:

Lighter shades of hair can typically have a shorter life span due to the nature of the decolorizing methods. This is common across all extension methods. Some exclusive lines may have a healthier lightening process but in general, the above-mentioned statement rings true.

Violet Shampoos and Conditioners:

It is recommended that you do not use them on your extensions.

Washing your Extensions:

Wash no more than 3 times a week with lukewarm water. Use your appointed shampoo and conditioner that is paraben and sulfate-free. Use conditioner on the mid-lengths and the ends but NEVER on the root area and rinse thoroughly. Avoid rubbing hair together and roughing up the cuticle and turning your head upside down to wash hair. This will cause too much tension on the bonded area. Squeeze ou

Heat:

Heat and hot water can damage hair extensions. Please avoid using cheap hairdryers and irons. This can dry hair out and ruin the hair well before it’s proper lifespan. Please use good quality hair maintenance products as well as hair styling products to wash, maintain and style your hair. Protect your strands from heat styling with a blowdry balm/cream, Oi Oil, and whatever other Davines produ

Brushing Extensions:

Always use a professional hair extension brush with boar hair bristles. Begin at the bottom and gently work up the lengths. If you have hand-tied or beaded weft extensions please make sure you are careful not to put too much tension on the string or weft. Doing so can break the string or unravel the weft. You may use a wet brush on the ends if need be but DO NOT use it past mid-lengths.

Sun and Extensions:

Some sunscreen can turn your extensions pink or orange. You’ll want to avoid SPF’s with Avebenzone or Octocrylene. It’s best practice to not go under the water but if you do wash, condition, and treat your hair immediately after with Su hair care line from Davines. Frankie will be sure to include this with your purchase if this is you.

If you’re going to swim and go under the water wet your hair and put conditioner in your hair avoiding the root area and wash, condition, and treat with Su afterward. You can not leave chlorine or salt water in your hair after water activities.

Salon Maintenance:

Do not go past the duration of your scheduled salon maintenance. This can be a big problem for the wearer. Wear from the extensions include tension points, loose-fitting hair install, etc. All these issues need to be maintained. I suggest making your follow-ups before leaving the previous appointment. DO NOT attempt removing your own hair as this could cause breakage. A skilled technician sho

Men’s Hair Replacement:

Do wash your hair every other day. Wash your hairline on your unit with shampoo and your forehead with your facial cleanser to remove your face oils from the front hairline. Doing this will help manage the amount of oil that comes through. Oil is the culprit to loose units. Do make sure you use the right shampoo and conditioner for your unit. We don’t recommend swimming with your unit. If you do, make sure you are using a silicone-based adhesive directly on your skin and your other adhesive on top of that (2 thin layers each). Do come back within a month. I prefer you make your appointments before you leave the salon as I book up quickly. Don’t use high heat on your unit and be gentle when styling.
